Music videos are where we started
Dwight Winston started out shooting music videos with family as Digitak Films before founding D. Winston Media in 2015. Since then we've made more than 65 music videos for Caribbean and U.S. artists, with more than 15 reaching number one on Tempo Networks.
Videos we've made include For You for Pressure Busspipe, VI Made for Lima Roe, Altitude for Jahman and Burn for King Lion Defuture. Watch them on the Work page.
From treatment to vertical cutdowns
- Concept, treatment and direction built around the song and the artist.
- Gimbal, crane and aerial coverage to make the visuals as big as the track.
- Edit and color in-house.
- Vertical cutdowns for Reels, TikTok and Shorts.
Island locations
The Virgin Islands give artists a huge range of looks within a short drive or boat ride: beaches, rainforest, historic ruins and towns, rooftops and open water. We know the locations and the permits, and we shoot across the Caribbean and internationally too.
How we make a music video
- Listen and treat. We start with the song and write a treatment that matches the artist's story and brand.
- Plan. Locations, wardrobe, cast, permits and a shot list built around the track's key moments.
- Shoot. Performance and story coverage, with gimbal, crane and drone shots where they add impact.
- Finish. Edit to the beat, color for the mood, and deliver the main video plus vertical cutdowns for release week.
Working with artists and labels
We work directly with independent artists and with management and labels. If you have a release date, tell us early so the video, teaser and cutdowns are ready for launch.
Planning a shoot in the Virgin Islands
A few things help every Caribbean production run smoothly:
- Season and weather. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30. Shoots in that window need flexible weather days built into the plan. Trade winds and passing showers are normal year-round, so we schedule key shots and aerials with backup windows.
- Light. Being close to the equator, the islands get strong overhead sun in the middle of the day. Golden hour comes and goes quickly, so we plan hero shots around sunrise and sunset and use the midday hours for interiors, interviews and coverage.
- Getting around. St. Thomas, St. John, St. Croix and Water Island are linked by ferry, seaplane and short flights, and the British Virgin Islands are a boat ride away. We plan crew and gear moves so travel doesn't eat into shoot time.
- Permits and approvals. Location permits and airspace approvals take time. Share your dates early and we'll build approvals into the schedule.
